The Virtual Enterprise(also known as a practice enterprise or practice firm) experience creates an entrepreneurial mindset and allows business thinking to flourish in the classroom. As a result, many students develop innovative ideas for real businesses during their time in VE. Through the new Venture Challenge, VE provides budding entrepreneurs with opportunities to transform their concepts into viable businesses through mentorship, education, financial support, and real-world business partnerships. A $10,000 award and 1-year membership at WeWork Labs will help Lisa launch TredBed, a business venture that will help revolutionize the medical industry. 미국에서는 실습기업(Practice Enterprise)을 VE(Virtual Enterprise)라고 명명하고 있다. VE는 학교 내에 실습기업 환경을 구축하여 글로벌 비즈니스를 체험하고 기업가 정신을 고양하며 비즈니스 프로세스를 직접 해봄으로 배우는 프로그램이다. 주중에 매일 1시간씩 주간 5시간 그리고 년간 200여 시간에 걸쳐 실습기업 프로그램이 진행된다. 많은 학생들이 VE를 통해 혁신적인 사고와 행동을 경험하게 되며 그 결과 실제 창업성과가 창출하고 있다. 미국실습기업본부인 Virtual Enterprise International은 Venture Challenge라는 창업 아이템 발표회를 통해 VE과정을 통해 학생들이 스스로 발굴한 아이템을 실제 창업으로 연계할 수 있도록 멘토링을 비롯한 재무교육을 지원하는 한편 실제 투자자와의 파트너십을 제공한다. 그 사례로 지난 4월에 개최된 미국의 국제 실습기업 페어인 YBS(Youth Business Summit)의 부대행사였던 Venture Challenge에서 우승한 실습기업 TredBed 팀의 Liza Tarakanova (외 2인)에게 비즈니스 인큐베이션 기업인 위워크(WeWork)는 10,000달러(약 1,200만원)의 투자금과 함께 위워크 맴버십을 부여하여 1년간 사무공간을 지원하기로 하였다. - 출처: VE International(veinternational.org)
